Our Mission
The mission of the Margaret Rose Kennedy Foundation is to provide need based financial aid to those with cancer related medical expenses not covered by health insurance. Typically the lack of health insurance coverage involves a gap in coverage. For example, most medical plans cover hospitalization, chemo, oncologist costs, etc. However, quite often, medical insurance does not cover the cost of searching for a suitable donor in cases where stem cells or organs are required for a transplant.
We raise funds via special events, Amazon Smile, donations “in lieu of flowers”, direct mailings, individual donations, and corporate matching contributions.
Administrative costs are paid for by the foundation. However, these costs are covered by donations from the board members. This frees virtually 100% of non-board member donations and revenue from donations, Amazon Smile, and golf outings to be used exclusively to provide need-based financial aid for medical expenses of cancer patients. We do not raise money for other charities who may have administrative costs of their own.
Grantees are vetted by licensed social workers and awards go directly to grantees and/or medical providers. The preferred means to apply for assistance is via a referral through a licensed Social Worker. To receive this financial aid, the recipient is required to demonstrate financial need in accordance with MRK Foundation policy and IRS recommended income thresholds.
Our hope is to foster a steadily growing and ongoing legacy of kindness and love in memory of Margaret Rose Kennedy.
